One of the Linnean Society’s most beautiful books is also its least well-known. The Reverend Richard Dreyer’s copy of Flora Britannica (1800-1804) may have passed into obscurity were it not for the owner’s luminous marginal illustrations, with page after page of stunning botanical and entomological vignettes painstakingly drawn and coloured by hand. Join our Librarian Will Beharrell as we turn the pages of this remarkable and eccentric labour-of-love, and learn about its sometimes surprising history.

The Linnean Society works to inform, involve and inspire people of all ages about nature and its wider interactions through our collections, programmes and publications. Founded in 1788, the Society takes its name from the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778).
