OBS Tutorial – Image, SlideShow.
When we start with an image source, the box will come up to give it a name. Then when we go in to properties, we don’t have a lot of options. We can load an image, we can unload it when it isn’t showing.
The next box you can click allows you to apply the alpha in linear space. You don’t really need to know too much about this, but if you’re like me, and you need to know something about this, here are what I consider to be the main points:
The Alpha channel is part of an image or video file and is responsible for transparency and opacity. You’ve no doubt heard about RGB channels, and all that means is that in an image or movie, the computer can recognize the colors based on what is allowed in through each channel. Take away the values from a channel and things start to turn grey. Now, in some file formats there is an extra channel. The alpha channel. This allows you to manipulate not the colors themselves, but the transparency or opacity of an image or parts of an image.
Linear space refers to the color space and how, in this case the computer is going to calculate the way that transparency and colors in the image interact. I can’t really explain this better without going into a lot more detail on it, and to be honest, I’m probably not the best person to explain this particular concept, at least not at this point In time. Basically, if you’re just starting out, you probably don’t need to play with this too much, but if you don’t feel like your transparent images are showing up right, or if there are weird edges, glowing looks, weird color blending that kind of thing, try checking the box.
Slide Shows are a little more interesting. Here, you can select a series of images and control them within OBS to create versatile slideshows. OBS is going to create a player for the images that you load into it, and it gives you a decent amount of control over it.
Visibility behavior lets you choose whether or not the slideshow plays when it isn’t showing. You can stop or pause the slideshow when it isn’t active, or have it play in the background constantly. Stopping it would cause it to restart when shown again, whereas pausing it allows you to hide it and resume where you left off. This is helpful if you want to show images for a top 10 countdown or something.
Slide mode allows you to choose slides that change on their own or slides that change if you press something. This could mean hotkeys, touch portal or streamdeck or just clicking through on the control panel here in OBS
You can set a specific transition
You can adjust the time between slides and the transition speed below that
You can loop, hide when done and have the slides show in a random order.
Next you have the option to set an aspect ratio. This is really useful if you have slides of all different sizes and you don’t want the slide show window to change for each loaded image. If you leave it as automatic, the boundaries four your source window will change to suit each image.
Finally, the selectors on the side here allow you to add your files or folders, change a specific file or move files up and down in the order.
