For patients with thin, crepey skin, Dr. Prasad advises against Ultherapy or Pelleve as these thermal devices may damage their already thin skin even further. Thermal heating devices can indeed tighten skin, but only up to a certain degree. If the patient needs a lifting of the face, they are better off doing another procedure such as a surgical facelift or a non-surgical Y Lift®, depending on the quality of their skin.

According to Dr. Prasad, patients with relatively thin faces may benefit more from a Y Lift® that a traditional surgical facelift. The Y Lift® is founded on the idea of structural volumizing wherein a cosmetic filler such as Voluma is injected into the deeper levels of the face, near the bone structure, to create a facelifting effect without the need for surgery. With this method, structure and definition is restored to the face.

With regard to concerns about cellulite and crepey skin on the extremities, Dr. Prasad says that there is no one good solution for these, regardless of claims made by various manufacturers of thermal devices. These devices are often dangerously overhyped and will always have limitations. In Dr. Prasad’s practice, he uses platelet-rich plasma regularly in order to correct the damage caused by the overuse of thermal devices.
