Do you really know what SOS is? Today it's easy to send a message to someone, right? But, in the past, things weren't so simple, and a letter took weeks to reach its destination. Therefore, when electricity was mastered, one of the first inventions was the telegraph, which revolutionized world communication.
Since the device only used one wire, it could only transmit the message of "on" or "off". Therefore, a new language was created: Morse code. This used electrical current to send long or short pulses, generating a message encoded in dots or dashes.
Returning to our initial question, SOS might seem like a derivation of the word "help," but in fact, it's used as an emergency code because it's very simple to do, since the S is formed by three short pulses, and the O by three long pulses.
