Check This Before Replacing Your Radon Fan
This homeowner called us because her RadonAway GP301 radon fan had stopped working. We arrived prepared to replace it, only to find that the fan didn’t need replacing at all.
Here’s what happened:
When I tried to shut the switch off, it wouldn’t move
As I began removing the switch cover, the fan came back on
The homeowner had recently had new siding installed, and my guess is the fan stopped working when the siding crew removed the system
The wrong type of switch cover had been installed, preventing the switch from operating correctly
The fix? We replaced the incorrect cover with the right one, and the radon fan was back up and running. Before leaving on our first visit, we also installed a radon system alarm to alert her the next time her fan stops working. We also left her a few radon test kits.
Later, after she found her radon levels were still elevated, we returned to:
Encapsulate a crawl space
Add two suction points
Install a de‑icing system
She had purchased the home with the existing radon system already in place.
