Session Abstract -
This session will take a 2.4 billion row dataset on New York City taxis and look at how to build a complete end-to-end solution using Azure Synapse and Power BI. We will cover everything from designing an data model with an aggregated fact table, ingesting data from Azure SQL DW into a Delta lakehouse in Azure Synapse as well as Datamarts, Aggregations and visual interactions in Power BI!
Rishi will show key concepts for working with large data volumes such as seamlessly combining Import and Direct Query mode within the same Power BI data model in order to optimise performance.
Attendees should have some experience in working with large datasets already and a familiarity of dataflows and database technologies.
Biography
Rishi Sapra is a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP), Fast Track Recognised Solution Architect (FTRSA) and Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) who specialises in advising Enterprise clients on self-service Business Intelligence and building Reporting Centres of Excellence.
He works as a Group Manager at Avanade - a Joint Venture between Accenture and Microsoft which has been MS Partner of the Year for the last 16 Years - specialising in Power BI. Prior to this he has spent 12 years in Consulting /Financial Services (Deloitte, HSBC, Barclays, KPMG) and is a qualified accountant with a background in Business modelling and process improvement.
He is actively involved in the Power BI Community in London and has presented at Meetup groups and several global conferences. He also runs two core communities - LDI (www.learndatainsights.com) for people to take data analytics quizzes/courses and PPF (www.powerplatformfinance.com) for helping finance professionals apply the Power Platform technology stack in their roles.
