Changing your nickname or username on Telegram is a quick and easy process. To get started, open the Telegram app on your mobile device. Once you're inside, tap on the Settings icon—this is usually found at the bottom right corner on iOS or the three-bar menu on the top left for Android users.
Inside the settings menu, look for the Username or Set Username option. Tap on it and then you'll be taken to a field where you can edit or set your Telegram username. This username acts as your public nickname and people can search for you using this name instead of your phone number.
Now, go ahead and delete the current one if you have it, and enter your new preferred username. Telegram will instantly check if the username is available. If you see a green checkmark or "username available," you’re good to go. If it’s already taken, you’ll need to try a different variation.
Once your new nickname is typed in and available, tap Done on iOS or the checkmark icon on Android to save your changes. Your username will now appear as your new nickname on Telegram, and others can find you using it.
Note that your display name (your first and last name) can also be changed from the same settings area, and it's separate from your username.
