🥼Here’s 5 tips for premeds & med students

️⃣ Study hard and break hard! ✋ It’s important for premeds and med students to allow themselves to take breaks and hangout with friends 🍿🎥 This helped me find huge success when it came to studying for the MCAT and boards! 📚 Even if you fall a little behind, taking breaks is healthy and allows you to catch up!

️⃣ After being a part of Admissions Processes and seeing what they’re looking for in students, research is key 🔑 even if you don’t want to do academics. 🧬 I always wanted to be the best surgeon I could be (and being the best clinician you can is a great goal 🤩), and research helps you get into those top programs! This applies for premeds and med students👍

️⃣ Explore the unknown and listen to your mentors! 🗺️My professor said “son you are too smart for ortho” which was shocking to hear since that’s what I wanted to do! 😂 As I learned about neuro, I realized there’s more nuance in the details! I currently live in these details. My professor was right, and I ended up graduating #1 in my class. Sometimes those in academia can see your aptitude before you🕵️‍♂️ Creating relationships with these folks is helpful! 🤝 They can see things before you even know they exist!

️⃣ I didn’t know the amount of personal sacrifice that I would have to make to get here 😕 You have to get rid of any FOMO! I have missed so many weddings, dinners, and travel opportunities 🛫🧳 I have even left my wife waiting at our anniversary dinner where she had to eat alone. I never had a passport until my last year of residency!😱 It’s easy to sacrifice for yourself but hard when family get involved. Surround yourself with truly understanding and supportive people that help you get to the finish line ❤️🏁

️⃣ Make sure you have a strong WHY that you have reflected on and can easily verbalize! This helps show admissions committees who you are
