Why is my phone storage full, even after you deleted your photos? This video follows one 128 GB phone through the five hidden places your space really goes.
You deleted photos yesterday, yet the phone still says Storage Almost Full. Nothing is broken. Your phone keeps copies of things you never chose to save, and much of the space is gone before you take a single picture.
Step 1 is the system itself: fonts, voices, dictionaries and update files you cannot remove. In September 2026, Apple said its Apple Intelligence features need up to 14 GB on some iPhone models, and up to 8 GB on others. Step 2 is app caches, stored copies that load faster but that many apps rarely clean. Step 3 is chat media: on an iPhone, Messages keeps everything forever unless you change the setting, and many chat apps also save a second copy into your gallery. Step 4 is duplicates and heavy video. And deleted photos first move to Recently Deleted for 30 days, so you get no space back until that album is emptied. Android gallery apps have a trash folder too. Step 5 is offline downloads that stay inside music and video apps long after the trip.
