I BUILT A WAY TO PUT VIDEOS INTO ROBLOX STUDIO FOR FREE.
In this video, I’m showing my custom MP4 → Roblox Video Converter that turns normal videos into fully playable videos made from Roblox Parts.
tool https://github.com/lfillaz/RobloxVide...
Instead of creating thousands of new Parts every frame, the system creates a fixed pixel grid and changes the colors of the Parts in real time to recreate the video.
HOW IT WORKS:
• Select any MP4 video
• Convert the video into individual frames
• Resize every frame into a low-resolution pixel grid
• Convert the image into a limited color palette
• Turn every pixel into a Roblox Part
• Compare frames and only save pixels that changed
• Compress the frame data
• Encode the data using Base36
• Split large video data into ModuleScripts
• Generate the Roblox video player
• Play the final video directly inside Roblox
The entire conversion process runs locally on your computer.
No paid video hosting.
No external video player.
No streaming service.
No expensive Roblox assets.
Just video → compressed data → Roblox Parts → playback.
The goal is to make it possible to take basically any video and turn it into a playable Roblox display while keeping the amount of data and runtime work as low as possible.
⚡ TECH USED:
Python
OpenCV / FFmpeg
Roblox Studio
Luau
Frame Delta Compression
Color Palette Quantization
Base36 Encoding
ModuleScript Data Chunking
The current system uses a 96×96 grid with 32 colors and 24 FPS, meaning the Roblox screen contains 9,216 Parts while the video itself is stored as compressed frame data.
I’m still working on improving the compression, quality, playback performance, and overall workflow.
If you’re interested in Roblox development, optimization, graphics programming, or just doing absolutely ridiculous things with Roblox Parts, this project is for you.
