Why Was Darth Vader Terrified After His Duel With Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Vader spent many years longing for the day where he could impale Obi Wan Kenobi with his lightsaber. However, after he defeated his former master, Vader's elation only lasted for a very brief moment. Obi-Wan's body vanished into thin air, something the dark lord had never experienced or heard of before. This worried Vader who believed that this could be some kind of Jedi mind trick or force illusion. As Vader cautiously pressed his foot upon Obi Wan's robes, Vader felt that for the first time since he could remember, the dark side had no answer for what had happened, filling him with an unfamiliar emotion: fear.
Later, Vader would even wonder whether this strange ability had something to do with the extraordinarily powerful Darth Plagueis the Wise. Obi Wan's final words to his former friend and apprentice were if you strike down, I will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine. No doubt these words played on Vader's mind as he pondered the meaning of Kenobi's disappearance
