If You Could Share 1 Thing with Your Neurologist | What Would It Be? | IAES Tuesday Tries | Monthly Support Meeting for Autoimmune Encephalitis Patients & Caregivers

✅IAES’ Tuesday Tries is a monthly Zoom gathering held on the last Tuesday of every month, moderated by Tessa McKenzie, IAES' Chief Resilience Officer. This supportive community brings together Autoimmune Encephalitis (AE) patients and caregivers to celebrate progress, share milestones, and build resilience throughout the healing journey.

🌱 What Is “Tuesday Tries”?
Tuesday Tries promotes a strengths-based approach by “normalizing the try.” Through guided prompts and peer-to-peer conversations, members learn to:
◾Reframe setbacks
◾Celebrate small and big wins
◾Strengthen emotional resilience
◾Build meaningful connections within the AE community

Recently, Tessa asked the group: “If you could share one thing with your neurologist, what would it be?” The answers were so powerful that we created this video to help strengthen communication between AE patients and medical professionals.

🧠 What Is Autoimmune Encephalitis?
Autoimmune Encephalitis (AE) is a group of inflammatory brain diseases marked by severe neuropsychiatric symptoms. Although patients are often misdiagnosed with psychiatric disorders, AE is a neurological condition that requires early recognition and immunotherapy treatment.

✅Common symptoms include:
◾Sudden behavior changes
◾Psychosis or hallucinations
◾Seizures
◾Memory loss & cognitive decline
◾Abnormal movements
◾Autonomic dysfunction
◾Decreased consciousness

AE does NOT respond to antipsychotics, and these medications can worsen the condition. Early diagnosis is critical for improved outcomes.

👩‍⚕️ Why This Video Matters
Psychiatrists and ER physicians are often the first to see AE patients. This video helps raise
◾awareness about:
◾Recognizing AE red flags
◾Considering autoimmune causes in first-onset psychosis
◾Understanding how early treatment saves lives
