When its 2024 and you're still social distancing
Even before 2020, scuba divers had already mastered the art of social distancing! 💙🤿
One of the things I love about diving is that it’s like an introverted social activity. You meet incredible people while enjoying your own bubble of tranquility at a safe distance from each other. 🌐✨
When I first started diving, I was like a remora glued to a shark, sticking to my buddies to the extent that one actually told me to not stay too close! I realized later that my clinginess stemmed from fear and lack of confidence in my skills.
Once my confidence grew, I felt more free and able to keep a safe distance from my buddy. It also lessened the chance of getting smacked in the face with a fin or a tank body bumping with yours.
They say you should be “close enough” to your dive buddy for a quick emergency response. But what’s close enough? It’s a bit subjective, isn’t it? 🤷♂️💬
I have heard different recommendations like being an arm’s distance away but once you get in the water, that rarely even happens!
So, in your experience and based on your personal preference, how far or close do you prefer to socially distance yourself from your dive buddy?
