Osteopathy is a friend of the gut because, with just a few treatments, it can resolve most pathologies, both in adults and children.
What are the main intestinal problems?
Many people are bothered daily by intestinal problems such as abdominal bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, but also constipation, diarrhea, cramps, and spasms.
The gut is truly our "brain," as our grandparents used to say. It is closely connected to emotional balance and is affected by stress, anxiety, anger, and worry.
Alterations in intestinal function can also be caused by an imbalance in the intestinal flora and, last but not least, by osteoarticular dysfunctions affecting the lumbar region (i.e., the lower back) and the pelvis.
How does osteopathy affect the gut?
The osteopath works on the gut through palpatory techniques that affect the abdominal area, but also through the spine.
The nerves responsible for intestinal movements (peristalsis) and the contraction of intestinal smooth muscle radiate from the spine. Each part of the intestine is connected to a vertebra, and the osteopath acts on the affected viscera by exploiting this connection.
