Sometimes in Excel, you might get data that looks like this: You've got headings in the first column and then subheadings and lots of blank cells.
That makes it easy to read, but we won't be able to sort or filter this data unless we fill in these blank cells. I'm going to show you a quick way to do that.
Start by selecting columns A and B, then on the HOME tab, click Find and Select, (then) Go To Special... In here, click Blanks, and OK.
Now we're going to put in a very short formula.
Start with an equal sign, click the up arrow key, (that selects the cell above).
To fill this formula in all the selected cells, press the control key and tap the enter key.
Now we're going to change all these formulas into values, so they're locked in.
Again, I'll select A and B, point to the border of the selection (you'll see a 4 headed arrow)
Now press the right-button on the mouse and drag a little bit to the right, then back to columns A and B and let go of the Right Mouse Button.
Then in the pop-up menu, Copy Here as Values Only
And now everything is a value, it's all filled in, and we can sort or filter this list.
