This video continues the series on the teaching of reading. It asks what sorts of 'knowledge about language' is most useful in the context of 'teaching reading' in secondary school English. It argues for the value in taking a rhetorical and functional approach to grammar and metalanguage, moving away from grammar as a set of rules about correctness. It also introduces the four resources model developed by Australian researchers Peter Freebody and Allan Luke.
