KIAH CW 39 Houston - Commercial Breaks, 2/9/2020
Here are some modern-day commercial breaks and station IDs/promos from the station KHTV evolved into, the present-day KIAH, a Nexstar Broadcasting-owned CW affiliate. This was recorded Sunday, February 9, 2020 (when I was actually in Houston and also when it was actually safe to travel).
While I'm not necessarily going to regularly post modern-day commercial breaks (mainly because almost all of the ads can be found elsewhere), I thought it'd be fun to apply that format mainly used for classic commercial breaks to the present day and see how it'd come out. The biggest takeaway (no surprise) is that there are more commercials aired per hour now. This was a 1-hr recording and the amount of ads for a single hour is about as long as some of the older 2-3 hr tapes I have. (This video would have been longer but I edited out several of the ads due to them being duplicates and I wanted to keep the video from getting too repetitive)
Anyways, I still think it's a nice counterbalance to the old KHTV breaks I posted the other night, kind of give you a contrast between yesterday and today. For the most part, the format of most ads and promos now aren't all that much different from the past. There's not too much from KIAH online, so since I had this, why not?
Also the one thing that absolutely drives me insane is how they announce their station brand as CW 39 "HOUSTON" (with extra extra emphasis). Not sure if they're trying to be funny or cute but to me it's rather annoying.
