The Lie that Started the Vietnam War

Did you know that the U.S. entered the Vietnam War based on a lie? In August 1964, the USS Maddox, a U.S. destroyer, was attacked by North Vietnamese torpedo boats in the Gulf of Tonkin. Two days later, the Maddox was attacked again, or so the U.S. government claimed. But the truth is, there was no second attack. The U.S. government knew it, but they used the false story to justify sending troops to Vietnam.

In this video, we'll take a closer look at the Gulf of Tonkin incident and how it led to the Vietnam War. We'll also explore the question of whether or not the U.S. government lied about the incident.

So what do you think? Was the Gulf of Tonkin incident a lie? Or was it a genuine attack? Watch the video and decide for yourself.
