Pan's "Monkey" adventures. Part 3' : Exploring a hidden creek, making a shelter, and fishing.
Welcome to the third episode of my survivalist series "Pan's Monkey adventures". Reject modernity... embrace... monkeeeeh! Sometimes I'll be alone, other times with friends. But both times, I'll test various survival skills to confirm what really works out there and what doesn't. I'm not going full caveman most of the times, because I do these things when I'm on vacation. But ooga booga Pan should appear on video at some point too. For now, enjoy my semi savagery while I'm having some fun.
Once again, we are using our family land and the two shelters as our base of operations. My good friends and couple, followed me on my request to explore a hidden creek out in the desert. (No specific location given EEEHEHEHEHE!). We had a ride so it was kind of easier to cut the distance in half. We entered the stream zone as a reconnaissance mission to gather intel on what can be found there. That's literally the first step of survival. Knowing your location and what's around you. From edible plants, to game for hunting, or even certain trees / wood for building. Clay, hay, fruits, stones, possible useful trash... you name it! Flowing water is the spot that everything washes out. Canyons are where everything falling ends up. That's where you'll find shade, items... and water! That was our main goal in this adventure. After some miles, we came out and found a perfect spot to camp for a day or two. Although we had our normal camping equipment, I tried to spend my time in an Apache type shelter we made. Rez knowledge pays off. A simple solid knife is all you need to take down trees and become a carpenter. We made a simple wooden skeleton and tangled a bunch of branches to make the walls. Then, we kept adding dry vegetation on top and the little hut was ready! Even if there are gaps between the branches, the falling rain will still be deflected and it will remain warm inside. This type of foxhole will keep you hidden and protected from animals. You can also literally fight anything outside through the gaps with a bow or spear (or gun of course... you modern fancy pants rich mcGee over here... freak you!). If you plan on staying for longer periods of time, you can fully upgrade the shelter by dressing the walls with clay. Leave a gap on top and some more holes on the sides. You need ventilation. You can stick branches on the clay and transform it into a forest bush. You won't be found even with thermal optics. The next days were spent by fishing in both fresh waters and the sea. Unfortunately the location we were at only had mallets and common carp. Notorious for not biting our bait. But we decided to continue our little adventurous vacation at the sea. The ocean was NOT nearby... but having a car with natural gas makes it possible. We did some spearfishing in shallow waters and got plenty of little adult species that most ignore. As I state in the video... one thing is certain, I am healthier now than before I did this adventure. See ya!
