This 1 trick will rescue your kick drum samples - NO EQ! [ableton producer tips & tutorials]
Ever had to deal with weak, muffled sounding kick drum samples that don't cut through the mix? Maybe you've tried boosting somewhere in the 6-12k area to get that "click" sound but without success - there just isn't anything to boost. Well, you don't have to replace your samples necessarily, you can rescue them with this little trick: waveshaping distortion! If the frequencies aren't there, I say, go and create them! In this video I'll go through how I did just that with a super weak CR-78 kick drum sample using the Saturator device, available in every in Ableton Live edition, but this works in any DAW so long as you have a distortion plugin capable of applying waveshaping.
