One-Take Covers #1: Green Day - Holiday
Happy Holidays! (Or rather, Holiday.) It's been a while, folks. 😁
Long story short, I've been busy with other non-music-related IRL stuff for the past couple years, and those adventures have now landed me in Vancouver, Canada for the next 2 years. Now that things have finally settled down, I have finally found myself with enough free time to be able to record music again. Ever since the recording industry gods saw fit to hit me with a copyright strike, I've been wanting to get back to doing one-take covers again. They're just too much fun and it's good practice for me as I get back into doing professional(ish) recording for the first time since 2023. Let's hope I don't ruffle any more record company feathers this time. 😅
I knew that coming back from hiatus I wanted to play something off American Idiot, given the current political climate in my home country. My original plan was to do Jesus of Suburbia, but unfortunately I wasn't able to bring a keyboard up with me so I chose my second favorite song (and, as it turns out, a very timely one) off the record instead. This is probably the second time in my entire life I've played a swing beat, and I learned and recorded all the parts within 2 days, so obviously things turned out a bit rough. However, I think it's important for people (especially myself!) to see both that everyone makes mistakes and that music is itself an imperfect phenomenon. Plus, I feel like all things considered, I did a fairly decent job at throwing this thing together in a total of a couple hours' spare time. Let me know what you think; I'm always open to constructive criticism and suggestions. ☺️
As always, every part was recorded in a single continuous take with all mistakes left intact, and there is no pitch correction on the vocals, nor any processing other than EQ and compression.
