WHAT IS METONYMY?
Metonymy is a figure of speech we use to replace a word or expression with an equivalent one. The most common example of metonymy is the substitution of a part for a whole.
Example: I read Machado de Assis because I like his linguistic style.
Metonymy: "I read Machado de Assis"
