This was a video to briefly explain how to connect the steering wheel controls using the vendor provided 3.5mm steering wheel control remote cable, without an extra purchased adapter. It showed where to connect the 3 steering wheel control (pink, green, red) cables on the 28pin connector for a Gen 3 Prius, it may be the same for some other Toyotas.

28pin connector pin/port layout, cable side:
Ground=pink, port 20 (port 23 if right to left)
Input 2=green, port 21 (port 22 if right to left)
Input 1=red, port 22 (port 21 if right to left)

Connecting this will also allow the right side steering controls for trip and temp to work (by grounding the pink cable).

This was for a 2012 Gen 3 Prius with a non-JBL, non-navigation system, large display head unit with cd player.

It looks like the one in this radio install video

My unit was installed at a local electronics store but they did not connect any of the steering wheel controls.

I have the Sony XAV-AX4000 headunit

The required cable (RC-SR1 / XAV-65) came in the box with the unit. Here's a link to the cable

Ground=black
Input 1=green
Input 2=brown (or red, depending on the specific cable you have)

If your receiver comes with a steering wheel control remote cable, check the receiver manufacturer's website to verify it will work for your vehicle.
