I used to hate running, but something in the last 4 months has suddenly sparked a newfound passion of mine. Here are the thing I did to change my mindset towards running.
For those short on time, these are:
1) Go in with zero expectations: I used to tell myself that running 1 mile was the benchmark for a successful run. I've learned the best method for me to run longer distances is to go in with the goal of running until I feel GOOD. Or until I break a sweat.
2) Identify pain points & realize the positive aspects of them. To me, running represented three things: pain, boredom and eventual knee/joint issues. I took these three pain points and found the silver lining in each of these reasons.
3) Recognize any negative associations you tie with running from the past. One realization that I had as to why I didn't like running actually stems from 8th grade. A memory of guilt and shame associated with what's called the "8th grade mile" left me feeling guilty about being slow.
