This video explains English articles and how to use them correctly, knowing only their correct translation. The definite article "the" translates as "this, that, these, those." "The" is essentially a universal demonstrative pronoun, which in English is called the definite article. It is used in place of any Russian words: this, this, these, that, that, those. No other rules are required. Where any of these words would work in Russian, "the" is used in English.

The indefinite article "a" (an) translates as "one of, some of, any of." The key word is "from." This pair of articles is also a shortened version of another English word. If you browse the internet and YouTube, you'll hear everywhere that the indefinite article comes from the word "one." That is, the word "AN" comes from the word "ONE," and it is indefinite. Your brain refuses to comprehend this? And rightly so. Because the word "AN" comes from "ANY," which translates as "some," "any." That's why its shortened version is called the INDEFINITIVE ARTICLE.

But "an" isn't just a shortening of "any." The article has a slightly different meaning. It translates as "some OF," "any OF." It can also be translated as "one OF." The key word is "of."
