The Garmin HRM-Run is a heart rate monitor for runners that records advanced running metrics in addition to heart rate, allowing you to track your run. The running belt does not work in the pool or open water.
The Garmin HRM-Swim is a special heart rate belt for pool workouts. Adapted for harsh environments, it features a sticky surface for better skin contact. It records swimmers' heart rate and stores all data during training.
The Garmin HRM-Tri is a heart rate monitor for triathletes that combines additional running metrics with heart rate recording in the water. It offers the functionality of two heart rate monitors: the HRM-Run and the HRM-Swim. Running data is transmitted to the watch, while swimming data is synced after exiting the water.
The Garmin HRM-Dual is an improved version of the older HRM-Premium strap. It's a dual-band heart rate strap for gyms (operates via Bluetooth and ANT+ protocols). Unlike the HRM-Swim, HRM-Tri, and HRM-Pro straps, the HRM-Dual is not designed for pool use. The HRM-Dual transmits heart rate data during workouts in real time.
The HRM-Pro records advanced running metrics, similar to the Garmin HRM-Run and HRM-Tri straps. It also records and stores heart rate data in the water while swimming, similar to the Garmin HRM-Swim and HRM-Tri straps. This feature allows you to use the Garmin HRM-Pro strap while playing football, basketball, hockey, boxing, or CrossFit.
