Walk you through the updated process for adding an accountant as your authorized representative. CRA has updated its security protocols. Changing how authorization are handled to ensure your data remains protected while these changes are more secure. The procedure can be a bit confusing.

The most important first step is ensuring that you, whether as an individual or a corporation, have. Active access to your CRA account or My Business account and these are the steps you have to follow to add your authorized representative.
First step, login to your CRA My Account for Individuals or My Business account for
Corporation. You must have an active login to complete this process.
Step 2. Navigate to your profile in the top right-hand corner of your home page. Click on the logo. Icon displaying your name or your corporation name to enter your profile.
Step 3.
Scroll down the profile page to the
Authorized Representative section.

Step 4.
Click on Authorized Representative and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 5. You can add your representative by entering their Rep ID or business number, but
using the ID is the most accurate method.

Click Next.
And select the accounts you wish to authorize. While you have the option to choose a specific account, it is standard practice to select all accounts for most representative

duties. After clicking

next, you will be prompted to choose one of three authorization levels.
Level 1: is for tax purposes only. Allows the representative to view information but not
make changes. Best for basic tax enquiries.

Level 2: Full access allows the representative to view information and make changes to
your account. Recommended for long term relationship with an accountant.

Level 3: Legal corporate authority provide the highest level of control, including
the ability to manage other representatives typically reserved for corporate managers

You must decide how long the authorization should remain active with expiry. Enter a specific date if the authorization is intended to be a temporary. Without expiring if you plan to work with your accountant indefinitely select that does not expire option.
Once you have selected the appropriate authorization level and duration, click next to proceed to the summary page. Carefully review all information to ensure accuracy. If everything is correct, click Confirm to submit the authorization request to CRA.
Note: under the new rules, once you submit the request, you may still need to confirm the pending authorization
