Pierre Poilievre on max-security sentencing bill, David Johnston’s resignation – June 11, 2023
At a news conference on Parliament Hill, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announces legislation to ensure that all court-ordered dangerous offenders and mass murderers serve their full sentences in maximum security. He is joined by Conservative MP Tony Baldinelli, who is sponsoring the bill, and by friends of Kristen French, a victim of serial killer Paul Bernardo who was recently transferred from a maximum-security prison in Ontario to a medium-security facility in Quebec.
Responding to questions from reporters, Poilievre says he will be reaching out to fellow opposition leaders to help shape a potential public inquiry into foreign interference following David Johnston’s resignation as special rapporteur. Johnston stepped down from the role following repeated calls from the opposition parties for him to be removed from the position.
