In this lesson we will connect to our Linode virtual server using PuTTY.

First, login to your Linode.com hosting account. We will need to use the IP address to connect. Note that your IP will be different from mine.

Now Open PuTTY.
Copy and Paste the IP address into the "Host Name" field.
Leave all the other settings as default.
Save these settings by typing in "MyLinode" as the server name, and pressing the "Save" button.
When you see the security alert appear, just click "Yes".
Now click the "Open" button to connect.
Type in "root" as the user, since we are connecting using the root account.
Now enter the root password you configured in your Linode control panel and press enter.
If you have forgotten your password, view the lesson in this section titled "Changing Root Password".
