Instagram’s two-factor authentication (2FA) is an important security feature that keeps your account safe, but sometimes users don’t receive the verification code needed to log in. This issue can be frustrating, but there are several reasons why it happens and a few steps you can take to fix it.

First, make sure the login details you’re using are correct. Double-check your username, email, or phone number, as well as your password, before requesting the 2FA code. Incorrect credentials may prevent the code from being sent.

If the code doesn’t arrive, don’t repeatedly request it from the same screen. Instead, close the Instagram app completely, reopen it, and try logging in again. Refreshing the app session often helps the verification process work properly.

Signal issues are another common reason. If your phone has weak reception or SMS delivery problems, the code may not come through. Move to an area with a stronger cellular connection and confirm that you’re able to receive text messages from other senders. If you’re using email as your 2FA method, check your spam or junk folder, since Instagram emails can sometimes be filtered there.

In some cases, Instagram may send the 2FA code to another device where your account is already logged in. Check any previously used phones, tablets, or computers for login prompts or notifications. This is part of Instagram’s trusted device system designed to secure your account.

If you still can’t receive the code, wait a while before requesting again, since multiple attempts in a short time can delay SMS delivery. Updating or reinstalling the Instagram app may also help if the issue is caused by an outdated version or a glitch.

For persistent problems, you can switch to using an authentication app such as Google Authenticator or Authy instead of SMS. These apps generate codes directly and are more reliable for two-factor authentication.
