No talk, no faces: just hiking and nature.
The hike to the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz Mountains, starts from the parking lot in Torfhaus via the Goetheweg. At the beginning, the path winds picturesquely through the landscape parallel to the "Oberharzer Wasserregal" (Unesco world cultural heritage). After about six kilometres, the hike runs parallel to the rails of the Brockenbahn. The view widens increasingly. The last section on asphalt road is a little more strenuous. But this may also be due to the wind which today increases with every meter. On the mountain Brocken the wind then blows with full hurricane force: 140 kilometres per hour.
The way back to the Torfhaus we first take the same way. Then we turn right towards the valley Eckertal. A very worthwhile decision, as we will find out.
The hike to the Brocken in the Harz Mountains from Torfhaus via the Goetheweg includes:
19.6 kilometers, 6.5 hours and 410 meters altitude difference.
