The problem: Write an equation of the line that passes through the following points. (Write your answer in slope-intercept form.)
(-1,3) ;(-4,5)
The solution: y=-2/3 x + 7/3. Since this equation needs to be written in slope-intercept form. We need the slope and y-intercept. We can find the slope between the points by using the slope formula or simply by finding the change in the y-values and dividing that value by the change in the x-values, between the two points. Then we can use point-slope form to replace the slope and point values to write the equation in slope-intercept form, after we have simplified; or we can find the y-intercept by replacing the slope and point values into the slope-intercept from, and then solve for b. In either case the answer will be the same.
