Auto Timestamp in Excel | Auto date & time in excel
Auto timestamp or auto date and time in Excel refers to the automatic insertion of the current date and/or time into a cell or range of cells in an Excel worksheet. This feature can be very useful when you need to track when certain data was entered or when a particular event occurred.
To use the auto timestamp feature in Excel, you can follow these steps:
Select the cell or range of cells where you want to insert the timestamp.
Press the "Ctrl" and ";" keys together to insert the current date in the selected cell(s).
Press the "Ctrl" and ":" keys together to insert the current time in the selected cell(s).
If you want both the date and time to be inserted, you can use the "Ctrl" and ";" followed by "Ctrl" and ":" in sequence.
Once the current date and/or time is inserted into the cell(s), it will remain static unless you manually update it. However, if you want the timestamp to always reflect the current date and/or time, you can use the "NOW" or "TODAY" functions. These functions will update the timestamp whenever the worksheet is opened or whenever a calculation is performed.
To use the "NOW" or "TODAY" functions, you can follow these steps:
Select the cell or range of cells where you want to insert the timestamp.
Type "=NOW()" or "=TODAY()" (without the quotes) into the formula bar.
Press "Enter" to insert the function into the cell(s).
Format the cell(s) as desired to display the timestamp in the desired format.
With these methods, you can easily add a timestamp to your Excel worksheets, making it easier to track and analyze your data.
