New server for Vast.ai
I purchased a new server for vast.ai hosting. This machine wasn't very expensive, and it allowed me to install my gpus to be hosted on vast ai.
system purchased Dell precision T5810 with a 4 core cpu and cpu upgrade for $115 after tax.
upgrades to get it going include
cpu upgrade to 14core 28thread xeon e5 2680 v4
48gb ddr4 ram
gpu 8 pin cable for the server psu.
Things to keep in mind :
I will be doing a dual card setup but 2 cards do not fit so I'll need to purchase a pcie x16 3.0 extender riser to run the second gpu outside of the case. The second gpu will run off a secondary psu specifically for it.
the internal psu , depending on your system may be low wattage. on this machine it was only 425w which is enough to run 1 3070 alone but more then likely I will be purchasing a psu upgrade for $30 to a 680w to be safe.
so keep in mind that the initial system cost me $95 , the cpu upgrade costs me only $15 on ebay but there is extra cost . the gpu riser will be $20, the 8 pin cable will be $15 the ram upgrade I already had but if you purchase ecc ram a 48-64 gb kit is about $60 . If I decide to go with the psu upgrade that will be another $30. so all in before the gpus it comes out to about $235 . It is still a pretty good deal vs purchasing gaming hardware that a cpu alone runs you minimum $300 😉. good luck out there on finding hardware and remember enjoy yourself.
