Montenegro emerged after the breakup of Yugoslavia and only became a separate country and sovereign state in 2006. Incidentally, this very beautiful country is the smallest in area and population among the Slavic states.
Montenegro borders Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast, the Republic of Kosovo to the east, and Albania to the southeast.
Incidentally, Lake Skadar, or Shkoder as the Albanians call it, is located on the border between Montenegro and Albania. It is the largest freshwater lake on the Balkan Peninsula. The lake covers approximately 390 square kilometers, although its size can vary depending on the season and rainfall. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and hills covered in dense forests, the lake is a unique ecosystem with high biodiversity.
