Palette Surgeonfish (Paracanthurus hepatus)
The Palette Surgeonfish species can form loose aggregations 1-2meters above the reef floor where it feeds on plankton and occasionally on algae. The blade like scale that lies flat against the base of the tail can be extended, and fin-spines are venomous for protection.
Juveniles form small schools around isolated coral heads.
Habitat:
Clear current-swept terraces and channels of outer reefs, from 2-40m but usually 10-40m.
