Do you know why Formula 1 tires are impossible to buy, even if you have the money?
It's not just about the cost. Modern Pirelli tires feature some of the most complex technologies in motorsport. Each one is composed of over 100 different materials, and the exact composition is kept a closely guarded secret.
That's why after every Grand Prix, absolutely all tires—used and brand new—are returned to the manufacturer. Formula 1 teams don't buy them, but only borrow them. After the race, each tire is inspected, scanned, and then destroyed and recycled to prevent anyone from studying or replicating the technology.
It's these few centimeters of rubber that help a car corner at speeds exceeding 250 km/h and often decide the outcome of an entire race.
Do you think Formula 1 should continue to keep such technologies secret, or should teams be free to develop their own tires?
