The Struggle: Why Do Black Lives Continue to Be Devalued and Over-Criminalized? Margari Hill
The nation’s historical legacy of slavery continues to be the foundational epicenter of racial discrimination against Blacks and other minorities. According to Dr. Rashawn Ray, Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution,“Bad apples often times come from a rotten tree. And that tree in the United States of America is rooted in systemic racism”. What’s more, according to recent research, disturbing levels of white nationalism and domestic extremist groups have been shown to have infiltrated law enforcement where Black Americans were most targeted. The killing of Ahmaud Arbery stands as a witness for the systemic injustice against the Black community. What measures should society take to secure a decent life for Black Americans? How can the Muslim American community, which has a 20% Black population, play an active role in easing the hardship of the Black Americans?
The Annual MAS-ICNA Convention is one of the largest and most diverse Islamic conventions in North America. The convention takes place in Chicago, Illinois every December during the winter holiday season.
