Communication is important in the personal and professional life of an individual as it helps in the transfer of facts, views, and concepts and in developing a shared understanding.
Elements in the Process of Communication
1. Sender
The Sender is the individual who initiates the communication process by sending out a message, idea, report, thought, symbol, or even a picture.
2. Message
The Message is the data or the information that is being sent by the Sender and can be verbal and/or nonverbal.
3. Encoding
Encoding refers to passing the message through a correct verbal or non-verbal channel based on the type of information that needs to be conveyed.
4. Channel
Channel is the mode through which information is transferred from the Sender to the Receiver.
5. Receiver
The Receiver refers to the person who receives the message at the other end. He can be a listener, reader or viewer.
6. Decoding
Decoding refers to understanding the message or information that has been sent from one person to another.
7. Feedback
Feedback is the last element of the communication process and refers to the reaction of the Receiver regarding the message sent by the Sender.

1. The Sender comes up with information that he needs to convey
2. The information is encoded
3. An appropriate channel is selected
4. The message is sent through this channel
5. The message is delivered to the receiver

7. If needed the feedback is given by the receiver to the sender

Keep the message simple
Ensure eye contact between the sender and receiver of the message
Focus on the body language
Ask insightful questions to understand the information
Be pro-active and listen carefully
