A contemporary of ours finds himself in the physical body of a tank driver currently fighting in the Great Patriotic War, who, in turn, is transported to us in present-day Russia. How can a participant in the Afghan War use his combat experience in the battles of 1942? How can a person from the future apply his knowledge of history and military experience to survive and win on the front lines, and change the past?
Will a Soviet tank driver from the 1940s "adapt to the realities of the future"—or will he? Even though the book's action is primarily set during World War II, he will remain a true Soviet citizen even in the 21st century. How will he accept the realities of the future, and will he say of today's Russia: "There have been worse times, but never such vile ones!"
