From birds colliding with cars and mayhem in the pit lanes, this Canadian GP 2023 was full of weird moments. Let's talk about that.
---
I break down ever weird and unusual moment from the Canadian GP, this isn't a highlight reel (Some of these are highlights though). This is essentially a list of things i thought were interesting and worth mentioning at this GP.
The Canadian Grand Prix has a rich history in Formula 1, with a tradition that dates back to 1967. The first Canadian Grand Prix took place on August 27, 1967, at Mosport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario. The event was held under the name "Canadian-American Challenge Cup," which was a sports car racing series. The race was won by British driver Jack Brabham.
In 1978, the event moved to the Circuit Île Notre-Dame in Montreal, Quebec, and was renamed the "Grand Prix du Canada." The circuit was later renamed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in honor of the Canadian F1 driver Gilles Villeneuve, who tragically lost his life in a crash during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix.
Over the years, the Canadian Grand Prix has had periods of absence from the Formula 1 calendar. Financial challenges and organizational issues led to the race being canceled in several seasons, such as 1975, 1987, and 2009. However, it has generally been a consistent fixture on the calendar in recent times. And leaves room for good racing and plenty of opportunities for weirdness,
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has become a favorite among drivers and fans alike. Known for its fast straights, tight chicanes, and the iconic Wall of Champions, it provides exciting racing and has produced some dramatic moments over the years.
