Why? Everyone's guarding data, the world's new most precious commodity. It powers AI to make things unimaginable before - from chatbots and content generators to AI communities.
ChatGPT, in the news lately for lawsuits over data misuse, is a testament to this value. Accused of leveraging enormous amounts of unlicensed data to create an AI that won global recognition, the potential profits could reach billions.
This is just the start. The data-protection fallout means an even more partitioned internet, maybe even a YouTube that requires constant sign-ins and captchas.
Data is becoming invaluable. Robots are being trained using it, learning from YouTube videos, understanding the world, and even innovating - all shown by a recent paper from Meta.
The issue is, as data becomes more guarded, the internet becomes more unmanageable. I'm struggling to navigate my online existence, with countless accounts and channels, even using AI tools.
And here's the rub: The easier content creation becomes, the more chaotic and unusable the internet gets. We're at a tech history crossroads - as AI evolves, the internet we knew will disappear.
So, what's next for the internet?
