In this video you will learn how to encrypt and securely communicate information between Protonmail contacts and non Protonmail contacts. The contacts do not need a Protonmail account to receive or reply to the information. This information is considered end-to-end encrypted (E2EE). This E2EE is integrated between Protonmail users. It can also be implemented for communicating with non Protonmail users. Proton mail uses Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) and as such creates a public/private key pair each time you register a new Protonmail account.
A standard security protocol for transmitting email is Transport Layer Security (TLS). Most major mail providers use TLS. Assuming mutual TLS compatibility, all messages you send through your email provider (such as Google Gmail) are encrypted via TLS. TLS makes it difficult for anyone to intercept your information in route, but it doesn't keep messages private between you and the recipient once it reaches them.
Email is not only vulnerable in transit—it can also be surveyed after delivery. Google scans messages for potential spam and malicious emails. Using Protonmail PGP encryption ensures that the information is kept private between you and your contacts. No-one, including Proton mail can see your information.
