In this video, I will offer you 5 ways you can implement to start thinking like a programmer.
Nobody is born as a programmer, or has the capability of thinking and analyzing problems like a programmer. It is a skill that you need to build overtime and it takes consistency. I guarantee These 5 methods can help you out:
1- Decompose Problems into smaller Parts: It is the best way to approach a situation. If you're building a complex project, you need to cut it into smaller, more manageable pieces. This will help you plan each aspect of the code.
2- Debugging: Debugging is the process of finding errors in your code which are called bugs and fixing them. It goes through your code line by line, and shows you what is happening on each line. This tool not only can catch bugs, but can help you understand your code more, and see what is happening to your code during runtime. Another way of debugging is to read your code and try to understand it yourself. This process will put your brain to work and make you think, this is a great way to improve your way of thinking in programming.
3- Learning from Others: Learning from experienced programmers is the best way to improve. Not only you'll earn more knowledge, but sharing ideas and discussing programming concepts can open for you a variety of new concepts to discover. You can use their thinking to improve your own, and because you'll learn new concepts, that will make you a better programmer.
4- Keep Learning: The best programmers never stop learning. Be curious and always be open for new ideas. Explore more options, that means, there is never a solution to a problem, there is tons of solutions. If you build a guessing game, go online and check other people's code, who knows, you might learn some new concepts.
5- Keep practicing: Practice Makes Perfect. If you want to become a great footballer, you'll practice everyday. Think of programming as a sport that requires you to train everyday. There is tons of exercises online, so make sure to search for them and solve them in the language you want.
Make sure to watch this video till the end, for a detailed explanation of these 5 ways to think like a programmer.
