How to use Google Drive (was Google Drive File Stream)
Google Drive File is a great cloud storage app for Google Workspace customers. It currently does not work for @gmail.com accounts.
Most cloud storage, like Dropbox and Google Backup and Sync work by syncing the cloud storage to the local computer. This means your files will take up space on your local computer. There are ways to select what files and folders you want to sync, but you have to manage it.
Google Drive adds a "virtual" drive on your computer, and then it figures out what files to copy to your local drive and which ones to keep in the cloud. What this means is you could have 300GB in your Google Drive, but nowhere near that much data gets copied down to your machine.
