AutoCAD Begginer course | File Tab Explained
In this AutoCAD 2027 tutorial for beginners, you’ll learn what the File Tab is, where it is located, and how it helps you identify, manage, close, and switch between multiple open drawing files.**
*This lesson is part of the AutoCAD 2027 full course for beginners and will help you understand the AutoCAD interface step by step.*

Welcome back to **Cadelyx — AutoCAD 2027 Made Simple**.

In the previous video, we learned about the *Ribbon* in AutoCAD 2027 and how it works as the main toolbox for drawing, editing, annotation, layers, properties, and other important AutoCAD tools. In this lesson, we move to the next part of the AutoCAD interface: the **File Tab**.

The File Tab is located just below the Ribbon and above the drawing area. It may look like a small part of the interface, but it is very useful because it shows the name of the drawing file that is currently open. It also helps you switch between multiple AutoCAD drawings when more than one DWG file is open.

In this beginner-friendly AutoCAD tutorial, you will learn how the File Tab works, how to identify the active drawing tab, how the Start tab works, what default names like Drawing1 or Drawing2 mean, and why you should always check the File Tab before editing or saving your work.

In this video, you will learn:

What the AutoCAD File Tab is
Where the File Tab is located
How the File Tab shows the current drawing name
Why the File Tab is useful in AutoCAD
How to switch between multiple open drawings
What the active drawing tab means
How the Start tab takes you back to the welcome screen
What Drawing1, Drawing2, and unsaved drawing names mean
How to close a drawing from the File Tab
The difference between the File Tab and Title Bar
Why checking the active file can prevent mistakes

This video is perfect for complete beginners who are learning AutoCAD 2027 step by step. When you start working on real projects, you may have multiple drawings open at the same time, such as a floor plan, furniture layout, electrical layout, mechanical drawing, civil drawing, or interior design plan. The File Tab helps you move between these drawings quickly, just like browser tabs.

The File Tab also helps you avoid editing the wrong drawing by mistake. Before you draw, erase, move, save, or close anything, it is a good habit to quickly check which drawing tab is active.

This video is part of the complete *AutoCAD 2027 Full Course for Beginners* on Cadelyx. The goal of this course is to make AutoCAD simple, practical, and easy to understand for students, engineers, architects, interior designers, civil drafting learners, mechanical drafting learners, construction professionals, freelancers, and anyone who wants to learn AutoCAD from zero.

In the next video, we will learn about the *Drawing Area* in AutoCAD 2027. The Drawing Area is where you create, edit, zoom, pan, and work on your actual AutoCAD drawings.
