AutoCAD won't open on your computer. How can you solve this problem? If you use AutoCAD on your computer or laptop and click on it, it simply won't open, here's how to fix it. If I help you, please like and subscribe.
First thing: you'll go here to the search bar and search for AutoCAD. Searching for AutoCAD, it will appear here, with the option to open and everything. You'll click on this little arrow down here and choose "Run as administrator." Every time you start AutoCAD, click "Run as administrator." Never go directly to the desktop; always use this option.
If you don't want to do this every time and forget, right-click on it and choose "Show more options" or "Properties." In "Properties," go to the "Compatibility" tab, scroll down, and select "Run this program as an administrator." Click "Apply" and "OK." The system may ask for administrator permissions to change these settings; just click "Continue."
*Second step:* Go to the search bar and type "Update." Click "Check for updates." I recommend pausing Windows updates, as this is often one of the reasons AutoCAD won't open—updates can cause conflicts. In the "Pause updates" option, select a pause of one, two, three, or even five weeks. I always pause for five weeks, and when the period ends, I let the update run, then pause it again for another five weeks.
*Third step:* If it still won't open, go to the taskbar, right-click, and select "Task Manager." Once the manager opens, go to the "Processes" tab and search for AutoCAD. If it's open (like Microsoft Edge in my case), right-click it and select "End Task." This will close all open AutoCAD tasks.
*Fourth step:* If it still doesn't open, go to the search bar and type "Edit power plan." I recommend disabling the option to suspend the display and computer activity, as this can cause crashes and performance loss. Click "Change advanced power settings." Leave the "Maximum performance" option balanced.
In the "Minimum performance state" tab, set it to 100%. This is important because keeping the processor at 100% prevents it from slowing down, which can affect AutoCAD's performance. My processor, for example, has a base speed of 3.9 GHz and was running at 4.40 GHz. Keeping performance high prevents issues.
*Final step:* If AutoCAD still won't open, enable "Game Mode." In the search bar, type "Enable Game Mode" and make sure it's enabled. This improves program fluidity, as the system understands that AutoCAD is a priority application.
Next, go to "Graphics Settings." If you use AutoCAD in windowed mode, enable "Optimizations for Windowed Games." In the "Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling" option, leave it enabled as well. Then, click "Add Desktop App," choose AutoCAD, and set its GPU preference to "High Performance."
Now, when you double-click AutoCAD, it will ask for permission to launch, because we've configured it to always open as an administrator. Wait for it to load—"Preparing the environment, loading..."—and that's it! AutoCAD will open normally and will no longer give that error about loading but not opening.
