NiCad technology is being surpassed by Li-ion technology. Here I take an old NiCad battery drill and change the cells to commonly found 18650 Li-ion Cells which can be found in old scooter battery packs. Instead of paying $10 a battery for sub C NiCads and spending 12 x $10 = $120 per pack for 2000 mAh we can put 4 x Li-ion batteries at 2500 mAh and spend $8 per pack for higher energy. The new technology has to have a new charger to suit so I show how this is achieved as well. This is a non balanced set up where the batteries will power the drill directly. In another video I will show balanced set ups where each battery has a built in battery management system which monitors each separate cell voltage.

Li-ion cells have a higher storage capacity as well as a lighter weight and they do not suffer from the Memory effect that NiCad batteries have.
