Brinks Home Security has been involved in several lawsuits, including class action lawsuits and lawsuits alleging that the company has violated California law.
In one class action lawsuit, a customer claims that Brinks has been charging him for text alerts without his consent. The customer, Jacob Silver, says he signed an agreement with Brinks in 2011 to monitor his alarm system, but that his monthly bill began including a $2.95 charge for Brinks Messaging in 2018, even though he wasn't aware that the service had been added. The lawsuit also claims that Brinks continues to charge customers for Brinks Messaging even though the service has been discontinued since at least March 2019.

Another class action lawsuit is based on reports from current and former employees that Brinks violated California law by failing to reimburse employees for business expenses like mileage. Employees with "Security Sales Consultant", "Business Security Consultant", or "Business Sales Representative" titles are the subject of the lawsuit.

For the second time in four years, the parent company of Brink’s Home Security has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Monitronics International, Inc. has entered into a Restructuring Support Agreement with both the lenders that hold approximately 78% of the company’s outstanding funded debt, and with the holders of a majority of the company’s equity. The goal is to have an expedited restructuring that would reduce Monitronics’ debt by approximately $500 million and provide increased financial flexibility to the company.
