How To Integrate Camera Sensors in a Linux System - Laurent Pinchart, Ideas on Board

Integrating camera sensors in a Linux system requires knowledge in a large number of separate areas. Unlike more specialized problems (such as writing camera sensor kernel drivers, or porting libcamera to new platforms), integration is badly documented, creating a steep learning curve that developers are left to navigate in the dark. This lack of information generates a false sense that camera sensor integration is rocket science that is best left to a handful of specialists.

For the first time, this talk will walk attendees through camera sensor integration step by step. We will cover camera modules, hardware interfaces, device tree and ACPI integration, Linux kernel drivers (including how to deal with BSP kernels), PLL configuration, EMC, libcamera, GStreamer, PipeWire, and camera tuning. Practical examples will use affordable off-the-shelf hardware based on Renesas and NXP SoCs.

The presentation will be accessible to all attendees with an interest in cameras. The audience can expect to walk out with a broad understanding of the camera sensor integration challenges, and all the keys required to either dive in the work themselves, or efficiently manage third-party suppliers.
